Welcome

Welcome to Newland St John's Church of England Academy

A message from our Headteacher

Welcome to the website of Newland St John's Church of England Academy. I hope it gives you a taste of what a special place Newland St John's is. As a Church of England academy our Christian ethos underpins all that we do with our values of thankfulness, forgiveness and responsibility.

At our academy, children come first, and we do all that we can to help them to meet their full potential. We have a firm focus on developing children's basic skills, and do this in the context of an exciting, thematic curriculum. Our strong staff team provides a learning environment where children are cared for, make good progress and have high standards of behaviour.

We have close links with our parish church, St John Newland, and are part of Sentamu Academy Learning Trust (SALT), a group of academies working together to improve outcomes for children, under the oversight of the Diocese of York Educational Trust.

If you would like to come and see for yourself what a great place this is, please make an appointment at the office, and we'd love to show you around.

A message from our Chair of Governors

I am proud to introduce you to Newland St John’s Church of England Academy.

Having worked in education for 25 years with post 16 students I believe primary education to be critical in developing attitudes and an enthusiasm for learning as a firm basis for lifelong learning.

I have been associated with the school as a governor and as a grandparent of children attending the school.  For several years I was Chair of the Trustees of the nursery based on the school site which prepares many of the children for their time at the school.  In addition as a member of St John Newland church I feel I have a good understanding of all aspects of our school and the local community.

The Christian Ethos is apparent as soon as you walk into the school and underpins all aspects of our school life. The school has strong links with St John Newland Church and the Diocese of York.

Our hardworking and committed staff provide an effective, challenging and secure environment for our children.  They work hard, using imaginative and innovative methods, to ensure all of our pupils are reaching their full potential no matter what their background or ability.  Our recent OFSTED inspection showed that all areas reached a ‘Good’ grading.

We have strong community links, with local industry and other agencies, and are looking to extend our outreach further.  The developing allotment is encouraging our children to eat healthily and support from our extended family is welcomed.  We are particularly pleased with the recently extended and refurbished building giving us a clean and bright environment.

I recommend our caring, Christian community to new families and look forward to welcoming you to our school.

Sue Firth
